The land is being taken.
Meet The Firewalkers.

Thirty years in AI. A druid. Standing on ancient ground. This is why.

I filmed this on the Bathgate Hills โ€” ancient land, a few miles from where I live. I ad-libbed it. That felt right. Because this isn't a script. It's a reckoning.

I stood on those hills and said what I've been carrying for years. No script. No autocue. Just the wind, the land, and thirty years of knowing exactly what this technology costs.

I've spent my career building the systems that are now consuming the earth. Digital transformation. AI programmes. Global rollouts. I know how the machine works โ€” from the inside. I know how fast it moves. I know how communities get left behind in the gap between a planning application going live and the consultation window closing.

And I am a druid. A practising Ovate of OBOD. A member of the Elder and Gorse Druids at Roslin. Someone whose spiritual practice is rooted in this land โ€” in the lochs, the hills, the standing stones, the living world that predates every data centre by thousands of years.

Those two things โ€” thirty years in technology and a druid's relationship with the land โ€” are not as far apart as you might think. They are, in fact, exactly why The Firewalkers exists.

What is actually happening

The AI revolution is the fastest land grab in human history. More than two thousand data centres are planned globally. Billions of litres of water consumed every day for cooling. Green belt protections quietly unlocked through planning loopholes. Ancient landscapes and Special Landscape Areas targeted because they are remote, because communities are small, because the opposition is slow and the capital is fast.

Communities have twelve weeks โ€” on average โ€” to object to planning applications that will reshape their landscape for a generation. Most don't know the clock is running until it has nearly stopped.

What The Firewalkers does

The Firewalkers is a global movement that uses AI to protect the natural world from the environmental impact of data centre infrastructure. We watch what's coming. We translate the complexity of planning documents into language communities can use. We connect the people who care โ€” technologists, activists, ecologists, people of faith, anyone who loves a place and is not willing to watch it disappear without a fight.

We are not anti-technology. I have spent thirty years in technology. We are pro-planet. We believe AI can be built differently โ€” with transparency, with accountability, with genuine respect for the land it consumes. But only if enough people demand it.

Why I filmed this on a hill

Because the land is the argument. Because standing in it, speaking from it, is the most honest thing I can do. No studio. No slides. No deck. Just a person on ancient ground, saying what he sees.

The fire is lit. Come walk with us.
